Ashley is based in Dallas, Texas, where she leads overnight news gathering for CBS News Texas.
On The Desk, Ashley delivers breaking news and developing stories - unscripted and with context - during the live morning newscast. Her reporting drives public awareness and she focuses on sharing the most critical information, in real-time.
In this role, Ashley also regularly breaks down issues around North Texas, including crime and public safety, transportation and local government.
Her segments appear weekdays from 5-8 a.m. and on CBS News Texas streaming platforms.
Before joining KTVT, Ashley was a reporter and fill-in anchor for KFOR, Oklahoma City’s NBC affiliate, where she was known for her dynamic presentation, engaging and accurate delivery.
She was recognized with several Oklahoma SPJ Awards for her work.
Ashley covered several major stories for the station, including: the aftermath of the Seminole tornado in 2022 and the April 2023 tornado outbreak in central Oklahoma; the murder of Athena Brownfield; and the plight of the three remaining survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre to push for reparations.
She also regularly reported on news and issues related to public safety and incarceration at the local, state and federal level.
A regular presence at the Oklahoma State Capitol led to a months-long investigation into chronic failures with the state’s public health lab. Her coverage exposed repeated, abnormal results in routine testing for newborns and prompted lawmakers to take a closer look at the lab’s funding sources and what its programs were doing.
Some of her most impactful stories were produced as part of the United Voice series, a franchise that fostered pointed and healthy dialogue about race.
Ashley’s career in journalism started at Texas Metro News - a Black Press-affiliated newspaper - where she focused on coverage in communities of color, also reporting for The Dallas Morning News.
In these roles, she prioritized in-depth coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccine’s rollout, and hesitancy in vulnerable communities, in addition to covering down ballot politics for the 2020 election season.
Ashley graduated with honors from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, and received a master’s degree from Syracuse University.
Ashley is a 2024 recipient of the N.S. Bienstock Fellowship from the RTDNA Foundation.
